Applications Specialist -  - Houston, Tx

Prepare preliminary, budgetary and price proposals (bids) in accordance with company standards and design protocol.  Provide technical and pricing information to company representatives, engineers and clients to support proposal development. Completes assigned activities under the direction of the Energy Group Sales & Marketing Manager.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Prepare cost estimates on materials and labor using marketing information, product standards, reference jobs, engineering pre-design and established guidelines.  Review estimates with the product groups to ensure that scope/specifications and estimates are compatible.  Analyze and report on accuracy of estimates comparing estimates against actual costs.  Implement cost, product and procedure improvements to reduce costs and bid preparation time.  Attend Job Review meetings.  Work with product groups and others to develop estimating models, databases and automated programs to reduce the time required to generate estimates and improve their accuracy.  Work with the various internal departments and establish a standard pricing matrix for the Energy Group flow sheet range of products and/or services.  Prepare technical proposals and bids in accordance with Sales and Engineering specifications  Liaise with internal departments and external suppliers to establish the costs and key design parameters for the selected equipment.  Produce a detailed technical specification and cost schedule for all tenders.  Prepare a tender document for submission to the customer which outlines both commercial and technical aspects of the company’s offer.  Review technical proposals and bids for compliance with quality assurance guidelines.  Develop new proposal materials and update existing files to improve deliverables and response time.  Work closely with Engineering to understand current standards and provide feed back from Sales staff to facilitate product evolution.  Develop proposal drawings to illustrate technical offering.   Performs all work in accordance with established safety procedures.

EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: Minimum two years post secondary education from an accredited college or university or other related qualified training, with five (5) or more years sales experience with directly related products; and/or equivalent combination of education and experience. 

Computer skills:  Must have computer experience using company standard software and Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Graphic application programs. Experience with drawing software such as AutoCAD or Inventor. May be required to travel for liaison meetings/site visits with potential clients. Ability to understand and balance the relationship of customer needs with the technical aspects of a functional power plant or industrial complex.  Ability to read and interpret hydraulics, process & instrumentation diagrams, mechanical / civil drawings and specifications. Previous field experience required.
